This is so in line with the digital garden concept! A digital garden is a website of links and thoughts that the owner tends to over time. They're often lightweight and inspired by a similar ethos of owning your own info/presence online.
I'm building one and it's been a slow but satisfying process to figure out how to do it. Shoutout to talyssa.com for getting me started (who I found via TikTok, naturally).
WOW thank you so much for sharing this! looking at the mindmap structure of this feels right on too...how we actually think and connect. Sharing this background article if others want to dig in more too: https://maggieappleton.com/garden-history
I left Instagram a couple months ago. The first month was hard for sure. But the wild thing for me is how tuned IN I feel now. I pay attention to what is in my sphere and community. I've had a few instances where people have told me about things (cultural, political, art, etc.) that I normally would have known about had I been on Instagram. And I got to have this feeling of word-of-mouth, of "no, I didn't know about that, tell me about it!!" Honestly a delicious feeling.
this resource is one of my favorite things i've come across in a while and i love how you add your takes in here. that part feels especially good. thank you for sharing!!
Interesting timing on this read as a few colleagues and I were just poring over a collection of resource lists to feature in an upcoming newsletter. The newest was created in Google sheets. Not at all aesthetically appealing but infinitely modifiable.
Thanks for writing this. I love how you talk about the uniqueness of resources that exist outside of social media.
It’s also why last year I started building a website that acts as a directory of creatives businesses in my town. We’re launching it later this year and I’d love to complement it with a printed version. You just gave me lots of great ideas!
Oh that's so great! In general I love the idea of building on mediums; there's no reason you can't create the web version of a print thing or the condensed one-pager of a booklet and vice versa. Please share when it's ready!
Friend! This edition was balm for my soul as someone who spends oodles of time and love in documenting and sharing efforts and learnings. To wit: a recent zine I produced to share the experiences of a Care Collaboratory I stewarded (bit.ly/takecaremakecare).While it documents a group, a time, and a process....I return to it, share it and get uplifted. And it links to ongoing list of resources! Thanks for another great edition!
Wow, this is beautiful and so epically put together. Love that you're acknowledging how it might document a more "static" experience but is still something wonderful to return to. I find I still feel that way even if it's an old project I'm embarrassed by/no longer feel relevance in. Thank you so much for sharing.

such a delicious feeling!! Right, it sort of "right sizes" your sphere to what you should be hearing about anyway...i'm with you on this feeling!
I refuse to bow to social media. I maintain my own "list of links" at http://socialfabric.nyc, and will do so as long as it is tenable.

That’s great. Being modifiable and evolving in realtime is huge
